Canceling optimization runs in the genetic optimizer doesn't seem to work.  It says "Please wait to finish the last step" but coninues to run and run and run.  How can you truly stop the run short of closing down the whole program?

You need to repeat tapping the ESC key until the Genetic optimizer stops.

let me ask you then, why do you even have a "cancel" button there if you're telling me to continuouly hit the esc button instead.

by the way, continuously hitting the esc button doesn't work either.  I would consider this a defect that you should try to fix.  And fix in such a way that the cancel button actually does what it's supposed to do, and that is cancel the optimization run.

as it stands now the only way to "cancel" is closing the program and that's just not reasonable

    thanks

I was thinking about normal cancel for a normal optimization not the GA. We have a list of changes for the GA, several bug fixes which will be addressed when the new version comes out.

I have seen Cancel work before, Tell me a little about your machine, What operating systems. What else was running ?.

We will duplicate it and add it to the list of items to get fixed. There is another bug which will get fixed when you try to make a variable constant, sometimes it will create 2 different values, due to the fact we are converting real number to integers. It does not always happen but it does exist, if you have 5 constant variables it might happen to 1 or 2 of them sometimes. It depends on the intial random population created in the GA and rounding to integer for integer variables.

We will have a new version of the optimizer for our new versions.
